You don’t have to know country music to know Dan + Shay.
Of course, the duo’s roots are in Nashville. But they have recently seen success stretch far beyond country radio.
In the past year, Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney have won a Grammy Award, a Billboard Music Award and five Academy of Country Music Awards. They also performed at the Grammy Awards, on Dancing with the Stars and The Today Show. Three of their singles – “Tequila,” “Speechless,” and “All to Myself” – have crossed over and gained traction on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, exposing their harmonizing country sounds to pop music lovers around the world.
There is no denying they are one of music’s hottest duos around today. And you’re not alone if you dream of getting to meet Dan + Shay.
A lucky group of Diamond Resorts members got to do just that, getting up close and personal with the stars during a private, invite-only show in Norfolk, Virginia.
Held at The NorVa, the concert was part of Diamond’s exclusive Diamond Live series, which features private shows by music stars such as Cole Swindell, Lee Brice, Jana Kramer and more.
The Diamond Live events are only open to Diamond’s timeshare owners and members. Each event includes a catered dinner with drinks, before the artist takes the stage for an hour-long acoustic set.
For Platinum members Don and Michele Marshall, from New Jersey, the concert was a once-in-a-lifetime experience for their family. And something their teenage daughter won’t ever forget.
The couple, who have been Diamond timeshare owners for more than a decade, already had their summer vacation to Virginia planned, when a Diamond Resorts team member called a few weeks ago inviting them to the show. They didn’t hesitate to book and decided to keep it a secret to surprise their daughter, Sarita, who is a loyal Dan + Shay fan.
They didn’t tell her where they were going until they were on the shuttle, headed to the venue.
“I would’ve worn something different,” Sarita said, noting that her parents just told her to “wear something nice,” and that she thought that meant going to “some historical dinner thing.”
“I told her to pack her cowboy boots,” her mom joked, handing her daughter a tube of lip gloss.
As Platinum members, the Marshall’s also had access to a private meet and greet, which included a photo with the duo, and reserved front-row seating during the show.
Afterward, the family said they couldn’t have imagined a better night.
