Diamond Resorts is on a mission.
During the first month of fundraising at Diamond’s European locations, the team has helped raise over 8,800 euros for the We Are Water Foundation – and that’s only the beginning.
Diamond partnered with We Are Water earlier this year to build awareness of sustainable water practices in the travel industry and to raise funds for the foundation.
With their “Let’s Make a Deal” initiative, European Resorts continue to implement various sustainability strategies – and to further promote this important cause – resorts are strengthening the towel and linen programme to minimise its replacement and asking owners, members and guests to help us make a difference, while reducing their travel footprint. As well, water filters are being installed in Spain, Italy and France to reduce over 62 thousand plastic bottles of water that were left in accommodations for arriving guests in 2018.
Through donations, Diamond’s European resort teams have a goal of helping We Are Water bring clean and safe water to communities in need across Guatemala, India and Indonesia. The contributions will go toward We Are Water’s efforts to purify existing water systems and repair broken systems in these countries.
Diamond’s European Resort teams are passionate about the cause and are striving to keep this early fundraising momentum going.
To keep even the youngest vacationers engaged in their efforts, the resorts are holding interactive and informative workshops, such as We Are Water’s flagship program, “Aquanauts, water keepers” with workshops several times a week, so everyone can get involved and learn more about water and sustainability. These activities for members help teach adults and children alike about the importance of bringing clean water to communities worldwide. Activities include a water hunt gymkhana organised for the little ones, they follow clues and go around the resorts to find the materials they need for the next activity which is the water lab, where they learn how to “clean dirty water” and finally they are given six “health cards” that show water-related situations and kids need to build up a story. The main goal is to increase awareness about the importance of water and show how in some places, water is not accessible at all.
How You Can Contribute
All of Diamond’s European resorts have eco-friendly merchandise for sale on-site that directly benefits their paired country. The resorts are raising money through sales of Aquanauts T-shirts, reusable water bottles and other fundraising initiatives. Be sure to ask the resort team for more information next time you’re visiting a Diamond property in Europe.
