As one door closes another one opens. And in Diamond’s Limestone College Internship, every door is open for students.
Diamond Resorts rolled out a new internship program this year in partnership with Chief Executive Officer Mike Flaskey’s alma mater, Limestone College. Diamond hosted 13 interns for the summer 2019 program and as the program wrapped up last week – all of the students either accepted a position with Diamond, expressed interest in returning upon graduation or are going back to school for advanced degrees.
The program not only provides “an opportunity of a lifetime for these students,” Flaskey said. “But it’s also providing Diamond Resorts with some of the brightest young minds coming into the workforce.”
As part of the program, Diamond pairs the student interns with business mentors to help guide them throughout the 16 weeks. That way the interns, who are either in their junior or senior years, gain experience in a number of different areas specific to their interests.
This first year, students were placed in several different departments, including sales, media, legal and human resources. The goal is to provide students with a chance to explore any career of their choice – and hopefully secure a fulltime job after completing the program or graduating.
Flaskey, who helped design the program with several of Diamond’s senior leaders, has said the internship is a way for him to give back to the school that helped prepare him for his successful career. As a Limestone baseball Hall of Famer, Flaskey said he wants students to see that they have the opportunity to do – and achieve – anything they dream.
The internship also comes with some unbeatable perks, including:
- Rooms: Each student receives their own room, free of charge, in a resort at their internship location. Every room comes fully equipped with all the amenities that Diamond members, owners and guests receive: full bathrooms, laundry facilities, cleaning services, and access to fitness centers and pools on-site.
- Pay: The interns received a real salary, which varies by location, for the duration of the program.
- Credit: Students can choose to use this internship for school credit: 15 credits at a 4.0 GPA upon satisfactory completion and graduation.
- Career Opportunities: Every student in the program will receive an offer of employment from Diamond Resorts upon graduation.
Limestone interns are stationed in a variety of Diamond’s locations — such as Las Vegas, Orlando, Hawaii, Virginia Beach — and even the company’s corporate offices. The experience is unbeatable for college students looking to jump into the business world, and one they won’t soon forget.
