Eerie Explorations
Searching for a truly haunted mansion to explore this Halloween? Look no further than the Nevada Governor’s Mansion in Carson City. This ghostly site is about a 45-minute drive northeast of Diamond’s Lake Tahoe Vacation Resort. The mansion has reportedly been haunted by the spirits of a woman and a young girl for several years, as noticed by residents, staff and guests. At night, some witnesses have heard footsteps on the stairs, seen doors that seem to have opened themselves and glimpsed these ghosts on the second floor of the mansion. It’s said that you can even feel a cold spot, which is a common sign of a ghostly presence, if you stand near the grandfather clock on the first floor.
Fun for the Whole Family
For families looking for a safe candy-filled night, check out the Downtown Halloween Trick-or-Treat event on the northwest edge of the lake. Drive about an hour up the beautiful lakeside to start in Heritage plaza. Then, make your way through local shops and businesses to collect a hefty stash of candy for the kids. This free event takes place on October 31 from 4-6 p.m. The little ones will have a blast and parents can enjoy immersing themselves in the local culture as you make your way through Downtown Tahoe.
Time to Party: 21+ Events
Dance the night away at Tahoe’s Annual Halloween Bash, held just a three-minute drive away from Lake Tahoe Vacation Resort at the Loft Lounge. This 21+ event pulls out all the stops every year to bring a huge party to Tahoe with a live DJ and a costume contest that grants the winner $1000 in cash and prizes! If you’re heading to this bash, you will have to bring your costume A-game. Be sure to buy tickets in advance for this event — they’re just $10 — because it’s sure to fill up fast.
Another adult-only event starts at 11 p.m. with the Halloween Dance Party at AleWorX. Located a quick 10-minute drive from the resort, this silent disco promises a night filled with spooky fun.
Celebrate Halloween in style when you visit South Lake Tahoe in October. Whether you’re on a family vacation or a couple’s getaway, there’s something for everyone in this lakeside destination during the spooky season.
