Imagine yourself on an endless vacation. We know what you’re thinking: “That’s not possible.”
Well, the Lundström family begs to differ.
Originally from Sweden, the Lundströms have been using their timeshare interest since 2010. In 2013, they joined the Diamond family with ownership at a resort in Greece. Then in December of 2018, they made the life-changing decision to leave home for good and lodge exclusively using their Diamond membership and short-term reservations at a number of different resorts.
“It took us three years to fix everything. We sold the house, we sold the cars – everything – and we just went to stay in Diamond Resorts,” said Mr. Lundström. The couple said they have condensed their lives into just two suitcases and two carry-on luggage bags. And they can sustain this minimalist lifestyle because Diamond’s properties provide many of the comforts of home, from dishes and cooking appliances to the on-site fitness centers and other helpful amenities.
Of course, they haven’t been unaffected by the COVID-19 pandemic. In the spring of 2020, many of Diamond’s European resorts were forced to close due to government mandates, and the Lundströms found themselves without a home base at all.
“We went back to a relative’s in Sweden for five months, and then we went back to Los Amigos Beach Club,” said Mr. Lundström. Since then, they’ve been staying in Diamond’s Spanish resorts that reopened in 2020.
The Lundströms are living the dream. At Diamond, we want our members, owners and guests to feel like they are returning to their “home away from home,” but the Lundströms have taken it to a new level. They can create a home anywhere when staying at a Diamond-managed property – with in-room amenities including cook-in kitchen appliances, laundry machines and more.
“We have everything with Diamond Resorts. We have the spa, the gym, the pool. We have everything we need, and we really enjoy it,” said the Lundströms. “It’s actually our home.”
So where to next?
They hope be able to branch out from Europe – when the pandemic no longer restricts their travel plans – to visit some of Diamond’s most popular North American destinations, including Las Vegas, Sedona and Cabo Azul Resort in Mexico.
We hope to see those plans in motion again when the time is right.
